if you have been keeping up on my posts, you know that
I have just bought a pair of converters for the 100 I
bought last week.
Your symptoms sound much like mine. I feel I have
exhausted (pardon the pun) the examination of the
engine and control system (without a "1551" box) and
this is the only thing left that makes sense. With
90,000 miles, no maintenance records and finding OE
oxy sensors, it seems that cat failure is very
plausible.
Being in the Lac St. Jean region, you're probably not
in a place to easily find a dynamometer based, 5 gas
exhaust analyzer. Do they do smog testing in
Montreal? I know that Toronto has a smog test program
in place.
That's what sandbagged me on this deal...the car I
bought has been in Alabama for a while...no smog
testing in the entire state. 140 miles away here in
Atlanta, GA you have some of the toughest enforcement
in the US.
Techincally, the car would not have been legal for
sale in this part of GA, unless you sell the car as
salvage.
Hopefully, I'll get the cats on this weekend. I'll
let you know how much better it plays.
