5kT Auto tranny

Well, I've decided to stick w/ my A/T for now. I got lots of good info 
about converting, but since my A/T is fine right now, I'm keeping it. It'll 
take me long enough to get the engine together first. But since I have the 
engine out, is there anything I should do to the tranny or torque converter 
while it's out in the open? The tranny up/down-shifted fine when running, 
and didn't take a long time to engage drive or reverse. The car is an '84 
5kT w/ 190k mi. I have no idea if it was an original or a replacement. 
There were no specs of metal the last time I change the fluid, so it seems 
to be in good shape. But I have no idea about the torque converter. What 
things might I consider doing now while I have the opportunity? I'd like 
the car to be a slight performer, so I want the tranny to be able to 
transmit the power well and smoothly. Any tip much appreciated.
