5kT Auto tranny

Well, I've decided to stick w/ my A/T for now. I got lots of good info
about converting, but since my A/T is fine right now, I'm keeping it. It'll
take me long enough to get the engine together first. But since I have the
engine out, is there anything I should do to the tranny or torque converter
while it's out in the open? The tranny up/down-shifted fine when running,
and didn't take a long time to engage drive or reverse. The car is an '84
5kT w/ 190k mi. I have no idea if it was an original or a replacement.
There were no specs of metal the last time I change the fluid, so it seems
to be in good shape. But I have no idea about the torque converter. What
things might I consider doing now while I have the opportunity? I'd like
the car to be a slight performer, so I want the tranny to be able to
transmit the power well and smoothly. Any tip much appreciated.
