Transmission

Hello I have a Audi 1990 V8 however my transmission is not working
correctly, I start the car put it in gear in the car moves fine for a while
then all of the sudden it just stops moving as if the car was placed in
neutral or something.  If I turn the car off then start this procedure all
over again the car moves once again for short distance ie: a mile or two
accelerating as if there was nothing wrong then it acts if I placed back in
neutral. Please advise would be helpful I’ve had the car check out by a Audi
dealership in they suggested that it might be the transmission I’m not sure
because the actually engages in moves as it suppose to do.
