Type 44 Axle Shaft Removal/CV Boot R & R

I have recently replaced front outboard CV boots on both my type 44 and S6.
Removing the shaft from the car was more difficult on the type 44 than on the
S6. The 44 has an auto trans and the lower ball joint and sway bar had to be
disconnected. Not necessary on manual trans cars like the S6.
It was more difficult to remove the CV joint from the S6 shaft than the 44
shaft. I used the puller described in Bentley (purchased from Zalenda) and
don't think I could have gotten the joint off the shaft without it.
The MOST DIFFICULT part of both jobs was cleaning the joints. A little of
that black molybdenum disulfide grease goes a LONG way. (Like all the way
from the garage to the upstairs bathroom!!!!!)
The parts kits from Audi included grease, boots, clamps, circlip and nut (44)
or bolt (S6).
I think the CV joints will last almost forever provided the boots are tight.
Good luck,
Eric
