	i think the concept of restricting access is this:
	if the info is available to the public on the www,
	the press is unlikely to devote time and resources
	to re-report it via their own channel.

	i worked in atlanta in 1996, for nike's website that
	covered their sponsored athletes in the olympics.
	(all comments about nike being a horrible company
	please send via private email, and i will humbly 
	accept them, mea culpa.)  the site was only for the
	press, password protected.  we uploaded sound bites
	from the daily press conferences, and very high
	resolution images for the press to use, along with 
	the usual press releses and news stories and writing
	that the press could reprint unedited if they so 
	desired.

	hope that helps to explain the logic.
