air conditioning question

While at the local u-pull-it, I noticed several a/c compressors from Dodge
Neon - small, Denso style (?) - and I can buy them for $35 each. These are
from late models (obviously), so old tired parts isn't an issue. I'm
wondering if I can adapt this compressor to my 86 5Ks and get rid of the
heavy GM A-6 unit which feels like someone dropped anchor when it turns on.
I'd have to have hoses made, but probably need them anyway. It's already
for R-134, and I'll tell ya, I'm AWFULLY tempeted to get the entire Neon
A/C system, compressor, drier, hoses, condenser and evaporator and graft it
bodily into my car. I can buy all the parts for about $100!

Seriously, does the compressor swap sound worthwhile? I'm thinking of my
wife's M*zda 323 which doesn't even notice when its very effective A/C is
on, and comparing it to my "Triumph of German Technology" which sucks when
it is supposed to blow and blows when it is supposed to suck. Her car uses
that little compressor and it gets VERY cold - mine uses the big GM anvil,
and just goes slower and gets worse gas mileage. What's wrong with this
picture?

Best Regards,
