"Normal" brakes for 5000s quattro

Need to replace front pads (and likely rotors) on my '88 5000s quattro.
Currently 133,000 miles on the car.  Rear pads and rotors were done about
22,000 miles ago with what I believe were just "off-the-shelf" parts.  A
couple of questions:

1.  Any advantage / disadvantage to getting "better" pads & rotors for the
fronts right now?

2.  Suggested brands / sources for pads / rotors?  What about Best Price (?)
or Blau?

3.  Will getting anything like ATE rotors or PBR pads mean having to change
other parts?

4.  Anything "non-standard" about my particular car that would throw off a
non-Audi mechanic?  A family friend is a professional mechanic, but doesn't
usually work on European cars.  However, I trust him 110% & he is very
reasonably priced.
