5KCS Lost Dash Lites

I remember something about the dash lights being integrated with the
license plate light.
If the license plate light(s) go out, no dash lights.  Then some vague
memory about
opening the glove box before you turn on the car and you'll have dash
lights.
I swear I'm not making this up.  In your case, if there is a short, maybe
something
is shorted with the license plate light.
