a retraction

If everyone remembers about ten days ago I had the rear wheel bearings on my
87 4kcsq pressed out and new ones pressed in. Well I b*tched about the price
($119 labor only) that the shop charged me. After all I had removed the
strut housings from the car and brought them to the shop. Several people
email me off list and said that I did pay too much and several said that it
sounded reasonable. Well on Friday I spoke with the manager / owner of
Manage My Car and he cleared it up for me. It took his guys 2.2 hours to
remove the badly corroded lock rings from the strut housings and then press
out the old bearings and press in the new ones. He also faxed me some
documentation outling the procedure and time requirements. I've been
travelling for business and have not seen read this yet.

I felt that Chris was very professional in taking the time to call me and
discuss with me both my original email and the charge for the bearing work.
I wrote my original email in the heat of the moment and probably should have
called Chris to discuss the charge first.
