Pentosin Level: Cold vs Hot

Dear Listers:

I know I have a leak in my 89 100, coz it needs a new steering rack, but 
the leak isn't that big.

Now, when I check the car in the morning (engine cold), the pentosin level 
is almost LOW. I usually top it off, but on Friday I ignored it. So I drove 
to work, and in the afternoon drove back. After arriving, I checked the 
level (engine hot), and it was almost at MAX.

So which one should I follow? Thanks a lot.
