If memory serves me correctly, the car was imported by an Alcoa executive
who lives in Sewickley and was involved in Audi's initial all-aluminum body
research and development. The car was allowed in -- and subsequently titled
and tagged -- under some sort of special exception whereby a manufacturer
can import an otherwise street illegal vehicle that is part of an R&D or
similar project.
