fool pump? Good mech. needed in Binghamton NY.

Well, I think I'm starting to...gasp...HATE my 5kt. just get it back on the 
road last friday...and today? It dies! I had been going up a hill when I 
heard a sound like air escaping? from the front of the car. I had then begun 
to pull over to the side when the engine cuts out and I get all the usual 
warning lights. Then the gas symbol pops up? I had prayed maybe it was just 
that I ran out of gas, we all know how dependable the miles till empty 
function is, but I was on my way to a gas station.... after getting gas, I 
added 4 gallons and tried to start up...the engine cranked and caught 
slightly but sputtered out. after that it would do nothing but crack...after 
a break I tried again and same problem catching slightly and sputtering out.

now some car history...
car had been sitting since end of june, last week the valves were replaced, 
and it had been put back onto the road last friday.
its a 1985 5000s T which has been converted to manual transmission, now 
having 73k

any ideas would be appreciated, as well as any leads on a good mechanic if it 
is infact the darn fool pump.
