The same thing was written in the manual for 92 100 quattro I owned. As long as
the dimension was identical, the wear was nothing to worry about.

Too bad you cant say the same for the Syncro system. Good tires up front, bad
tires in the rear equals constant lock-up, with excessive forces on the viscous
coupling, with failure as the end result.
