Of course. Getting the old ones out is the problem - you have to do
all three. It's OK fabricating stuff when it's your own car, but
when a customer is paying $50 an hour for labour, you very soon run
past the cost of a new part when bodging the old one.
What we're trying to do with the Workshop is offer a no-frills low
overhead service with no rip-offs - but where the most cost-effective
solution is either a new Audi part, a part from one of Audi's own
OEM suppliers, or a part reconditioned by someone we know to be very
reliable (e.g., KMI for metering heads) then that's the route we choose.
Some very rough analysis shows parts to be 40% of most independent
shops' invoices, and labour 60%. We're the other way round, so most
customers leave the shop with a good deal more value actually in their
car.
