Mike,

Many small US cars used the same pattern as low capacity trailer axles. The
problem is that there is quite a difference in the offset. Trailer wheels
have the mounting face centered to the tire. If you use an auto wheel on a
trailer they will usually rub on the frame or springs. As you know the 8"
tires are best left on lawnmowers. The best solution is to get 12" trailer
wheels and tires which are a tremendous improvement. They are easy to find,
even at Wal-Mart, already mounted and ready to go. Measure the distance
between the axle hub and the inside of the fender first to see if the much
larger diameter tires will fit. Over the years I have used 12" wheels with
great results, the slower wheel speed helps your wheel bearing life as well.
Many times I have used 12" auto tires on trailer wheels which is an even
better combo.

Happy trailering

Mike Dawson
