A4 brake orientation

I got a set of front brakes from an A4Q from someone who upgraded his car.
I intend to install them on the urq to improve braking over stock and yet
still be able to use the 15x7 Fuchs wheels. I got the brakes completely
disassembled in boxes ... but they are in excellent shape. I have figured
out how the assembly goes together ... quite different from the other ATE
front calipers with which I'm familiar, but they seem to be pretty good
design. The only thing is that since I didn't remove them from the car I
don't know which is for the left side and which is for the right. It seems
to me that the brake line tends to usually come from the end of the caliper
pointing to the rear of the car, but I don't know if that is always the
case. I suppose I can get a part number from one of the calipers and look
it up, but I thought someone here might know the answer immediately and save
the trouble ...
If there is someone out there who has done this conversion before ... did
you have to have custom lines made up? The connections at the caliper have
an unusual set of bracketry that holds the line in place at the caliper end
and does not allow the line to rotate. I suspect it might be difficult to
get braided SS lines that have this sort of connection at the end ...
One thing that I think will be an improvement is the mechanism to pull the
pads back from the rotors when the brakes are released. My stock brakes
seem to have a reasonable bit of drag when the brakes are released. When
I'm done I'll have the A4 brakes up front and a set of vented rears for a
V8Q in back. I suppose the next order of business will be to assess the
proportioning from front to rear with the new setup. I've always had the
feeling that the stock setup was a bit overly biased toward the front wheels
...
Thanks for any input!
