Axle nut replacement- is it necessary

I've never replaced mine, either, BUT I have noticed this:
When the wheel bearings start to go out (a little vibration), it will
eventually loosen the axle nuts if they have been re-used a lot. BTDT 3
times now. Yes, I put locktite high-strength on the nut and torque it to
500 foot-pounds or so (me on the end of a 1 meter persuader bar). So, it's
probable worth the extra $1.00us or so to put a new nut on.
