decisions, decisions ('93 90CS vs new '00 Ford Contuour)-long

Having had the pleasure of two a/t diffs go on me
recently on the '86 5kt cars, I don't think it is a
good idea to pour more money into a type $$ (very
appropriate that the $ and 4 keys are the same on a US
spec keyboard...).

So I have been out shopping. I have $1825 in Ford
scrip and took a look at buying a leftover '00 Ford
Contour SE with 2.5 V6 and 5 speed stick. With the
$2000 cash rebate or other incentives, maybe it was
time to buy something new. Wife thought the Idea was
great. Maybe I might get a week or two of Trouble
Free Driving out of the deal.

Ford dealers seem to assume the customers are idiots
and don't want to deal on the car. They seem to think
the rebate should do all the work. Me thinks that
with a 1 model year old car that has been
_discontiuned_ that the dealers should be overjoyed to
sell it.

I also looked at depreciation on the Contour, and I
was put into shock.

So, yours truly trotted out the local want ads here in
Atlanta and found a '93 90CS (FWD) with V6 and 5
speed. Arrest me Red with black interior. 122K on
the clock, and the car looks nice, not perfect, but
very nice. Took it for a spin yesterday and was
seduced.

Owner claims he's closing on a house in a few weeks,
and wants to sell so he can put more money in on the
closing...sez he also has a WMB 735 that he's keeping.

He wants $7k, I think somewhere in the mid $5k is
appropriate for a private sale car of this sort

Comments from the gallery are appreciated...especially
the BTDT amongst you with this version of the 90.

Thanx, Bill Magliocco (soon to have a $$ for the
taking cheap)
