Congrats! At first I was thinking to myself ... you've already got an urq
... but this is a different Michael Williams! I suppose there must some
sort of affinity between people named Michael Williams and urquattros! ;-)
Yes, the Bentley you are talking about is one of the more important
documents for the urquattro. There are some differences between the '83,
'84 and '85 models sold here in the USA and Canada, but most of the stuff in
the Bentley applies. The one thing that Bentley does not have is a wiring
diagram for the '83. There are a couple other documents I would recommend
that any urquattro owner have, which I believe are still available from
Dyment Distribution (Audi's document provider). Dyment can be contacted at
(800.544.8021). Here is the order information:
Order #
WSP 451 556 00 - Audi Quattro Introductory Service Training Manual
[ur-quattro]
WSP 452 557 00 - Audi Quattro Maintenance and Adjustments Manual
[ur-quattro]
FYI, the former document gives a good overview of the systems of the car
(engine, brakes, drive train, etc.) ... with a good bit of theory of
operation, while the latter document describes things like torque specs and
troubleshooting procedures (like what to do when your fuel pump shuts down
at 4000 RPM :). These documents go into such detail as to describe the
timing and boost maps that are programmed into the F/TCU. I can't seem to
remember the price exactly, but I think it is either US$10 or $15 each. I
also picked up an Audi manual called Audi Quattro - Preliminary Repair
Information from a guy on eBay, but in reality I don't think that it has
anything that the Bentley doesn't. Finally, I managed to get a wiring
diagram from Audi many years ago. I'm thinking that I'll probably scan this
in and put it up on a website somewhere so that others can reference it.
In addition, there is a site I always recommend to any urquattro owner.
Robert Houk has moved on to other Audis now, but fortunately his old urq
site is still running ... check out (and bookmark!):
http://www.tiac.net/users/rdh/http/Urq/index.htm
for a lot of excellent BTDT on the urquattro ... Finally, I'll put in a plug
for the audifans urq list ... check out:

for info on how to become a member. You can also check the archives to see
all of the topics that have been discussed to date.
HTH!
