The ground is actually for the ignition booster mounted to the same bracket
(I don't think the coil itself actually takes a ground from the same point),
which is the nuts that physically hold the coil/ign. booster assembly to the
firewall. I had freshly repainted my engine bay before putting the coil on
the firewall and thus there was no path to ground! Just touch the probe on
your DMM to the part of the bracket that touches the ign. booster and verify
low resistance to a known good ground.
