3rd note: it could be the front oil seal on the crank. It's happened
before. Air passes by the worn seal, making a whistling noise. Usually a
timing belt change includes new front seal, belt, tensioner[pulley], and
water pump. If you changed the front seal before, then it's not yer
problem, but don't put grease on the belt! Any petroleum product will eat
and destroy rubber. That's why you never grease rubber suspension bushings.
Seen that happen too many times too.
about the noisy lifters, you can get rid of that by replacing them. The
hyd. lifters are $7 each and all you need to do is take the valve cover and
camshaft off to get to them.
