Girling Rear brakes

For those of you, like me, that think their Girling rear brakes are
working just fine, think again. Due to a noise, that turned out to be a
bent dust shield, I ended up working on my rear brakes. Turns out, that
not only were the pins a bit rusty, but one of them was completely
frozen and I ended up breaking it.

Good news is, the caliper carrier, with the pins and rubber boots, is
available from the dealer as a unit for a fairly reasonable price, $87.

Part Number #443-615-425-A

Oh, and this is the part number the family album specifies for the
following cars:
1993-95 90series, front wheel drive and quattro
1993-95 100series, front wheel drive and quattro
1995-97 A6 series, front wheel drive and quattro

I didn't check any farther, but there could be more years included. The
'96 A4 I checked had a similar part number (the first three digits are
different), but it looks identical, so it may very well be the exact
same part.

The best news, after servicing the brakes, including cleaning up the
front brakes and putting anti-squeal paste on the pads, I now have GREAT
brakes. I thought I had pretty good brakes before, but now it's like "Oh
my God, who threw out the boat anchor!" Another plus is that the
emergency brake holds better than before too.
