I have built my own pillar pod for three gauges from fiberglass, I am not
entierly satisfied with the fitting. I am going to take it down soon to
alter it a bit. After that I will make a mold to make one of carbon fibre.
It is for a type 44 and I replace the entire A-pillar. If it is not to much
trouble I can make a few of them, if there is sufficient interest I can let
someone make a few of these. I know a guy who makes carbon fibre stuff for a
resonable price if he gets a mold.
Otherwise it is pretty easy to make a pillar pod for the dash, tape down a
piece of thick plastic on the dash where you want the pod. Mask the entire
interior ;) with something to protect it! After that you put a piesce of
impregnated fibreglass on the surface where you want the footprint of the
pod and let it harden. After that you can build your pod with wax on the
fibreglass plate, if you build it a bit too small you can put fibreglass and
reisin on it directly. You can remove the wax with _hot_ water afterwards.
Or you can build the pod of frigolit, hmm, that's a trademark here in
sweden, but anyway that white very light stuff. It is very easy to work with
but it will be eaten away by the polyester resin, if you use epoxy resin you
will be fine. When the pod is finnished you carve out as much as possible of
the frigolit and then fill the pod with aceton and let that eat the rest of
the frigolit.
I think I want one of these too, maybe trade it for a pillar pod?
