4x108 is right for the UK spec mid 80s 80q and 90q. Shared with big-engined
(I5 2.1/2.2/2.3) Coupes and 100s (5Ks in the US)
> 2. Front balljoints shared with other models?
Probably 80s and Coupes of same vintage.
> 3. Starter interchangable with another model? (standard)
I think so. The engine block is identical in the I5 80s 90s 100s and 200s
(4K and %K is the US)
> 4. Drivetrain vibration at highway speeds (50 mph)-hanger bearing?
I'd start by getting the tyres balanced.

Jack the car up (all four corners) safely. Start engine, operate console
control and crawl under car to see if vacuum-powered actuators move the
levers coming out of the difs.
OR
Lock centre diff. There should be a little tyre judder when going around
corners.
Lock both diffs. There should be a LOT of tyre judder when going round
corners.
> 6. Raer calpiers same as VW or 5000 model?
My 80q has same rear calipers as my 100

Don't know - refer to electrical diagram in Bently manual.
> 8. Approx RPM'S at 60 mph (to test tach reading)
I think on my car that 4000rpm is about 80mph. US models may have different
final drive or tyre size.

I don't think UK shops are going to be much use to you!

On UK cars, brake master cylinder is easy-peasy. Clutch master cylinder is
the most difficult job I've ever done on a car (and I've done it twice
now) - much worse than replacing all four springs and shocks!

It certainly is!

The quattro drive train is reputedly bullet proof.

If car has sat for 13 months, the tyres won't be round any more!
CV problems on drive shafts tend to be noticed by making alarming clunks on
tight turns. Continuous vibration/whirring noise could be a bad bearing.
Does it change on left-hand or right-hand bends?

That's a bit short-sighted. Why not for ever???
