If it's more a "rubber" squeak than a metallic squeak and most
noticeable when the car & weather are cool, it may be the
steering damper, which is basically a small shock absorber
mounted on the rack. Notorious for getting all noisy on
these cars, though I don't know if there are any other side-
effects.
