How to replace fuel filter in Audi 100?

Others may know of a method to release the pressure, but for mine, I broke 
loose the fittings and covered them with a rag to absorb the fuel.
The fittings are indeed VERY tight. The filter has a hex design stamped into 
the ends to facilitate holding with a wrench. Those ends are quite large, and 
thin enough so as not to allow the use of an adjustable (Crescent) wrench. 
Proper size wrench, or creativity is called for.
Just use as much force as is needed to get them loose, using cheater pipes, 
etc.
