Sounds like an old escort BMW system, which was very efficient at detecting 
McDonald's and Burger Kings, if you were so inclined.  Some of the BMW's that 
have come through my family had this integrated radar (88 735 and 87 635CSi). 
 It's about as useful as the "miles until empty" feature on my trip computer 
of my GT - which insists that I can get 500 miles to a tank...
