I think that his point was probably that it wasn't necessary for you to
show off your blazing wit and dark sarcasm to the list when you replied
to him.  Instead of saying

You could have said

"Actually, Audi has plants in a few countries besides Germany.  
For example, they have a factory in Parana Brazil where they make 
A3's."

Remember what your mother always told you about netiquette; if it would
be rude to say it to his face, it would also be rude to say it in
e-mail.  If you really have the urge to write up a sophomoric response
to someone's post, write it up and delete it instead of sending it out
... no one else wants to read it.
