Hello Listers,
I am in the need of opinions, I curently Have an 81 Mazda RX-7 gs
project car. The idea is to put a 13B T or Single turbo a 13B-REW. Possibly
using a 89-91 turbo if this will work. I am looking to make 300 hp. I have
done nothing except picked up an 85 LSD out of an GSL. I also have 15x7's on
my 83 RX-7. I have spent the last three years on the RX-7 list gaining
knowledge. I hope to get 0-60 times in the 5-6 second range and 13-14 second
quarters. anything times faster of course would be better.
I have also fallen victim to Audis. I have an 85 5000 Turbo that tears
up my 83 RX-7. Very strong KH engine. New head and injectors, hoses ect. The
tranny is needing replacement. Can we say manual conversion? I was kicking
around the idea of buying a 4000 Quattro and doing the turbo swap. I already
have an excellent engine in a car that needs everything done. tranny,
suspension, exhaust.... So for the most part I have a doner car for an
engine for a 4000 turbo quattro just no car.
the opposite is true for the Mazda. I have the car but no engine.
This is what I have came up with.
1.Rotary has no timing belt to break anf F' up the valves. the reason for
the new head in the Audi.
2. The Audi has no Apex seals and seams less prone to blow up under boost.
3. RX-7 = rear wheel drive with live axle and ball type steering.
4. 4000 = all wheel drive with independent supspension and rack and pinion.
5. The RX-7 has no real brake upgrades. I could go SE but I mean 12 or 13
inch disks
6. I believe I can get Big brakes for the Audi
7. the 7 could not be driven in the winter,
8 . the Audi could.
9. The RX-7 would provide a " Holy S*it !!! experience that could bring you
closer to God.
10. The Quattro and bigger brakes may save you from having to meet Him.
A closing thought. Can a Audi KH engine make 300 horses reliably? I am
prepared to do away with the CIS for a tunable aftermarket system. Both cars
I would expect would need such an upgrade. And has anyone pulled simular
performance times with an 4000 as my projected 7 times?
I love both cars and this is like tring to decide between two lovers.
