blowing hot air

Want to thank those who responded re: 86 5kcst - bad fuel pump? relay a few 
weeks ago...everything is fine with that now, replaced the relay and the fuel 
pump fuse.  
This weeks dilema is my climate control.  it has been acting up blowing 
through the center vents intermittently, now though it only blows out the 
defrost and footwell vents, the air conditioner was working with it that way, 
thought intermittently the compressor would not engage...I would turn off and 
on several times and then voila!  Well this morning it has decided to only 
blow hot air, I would set the temp to low on Auto, Bilevel or just have the 
fan run and I only get hot air.  Even with it "off" the hot air continues to 
come in at the defrost vent and foot well area, though not blowing, it can 
get pretty warm, especially if your windows are not cooperating either 
(mechanic was to fix yesterday...ran out of time).  Anyway, here I am with my 
Bentley and screwdrivers taking glove box etc...out.  I tried another climate 
control unit i borrowed, it didn't light up or engage in any type of activity 
as I pressed the buttons.  back on with the old one, it runs everything 
except in the hot mode all the time...the little red dot flashes off and on 
every time i turn the car on,  I know the Bentley says it is telling me there 
is a fault, where?  I've pulled some codes on it it tells me somethings, the 
rest I'm not sure of.  I seem to run out of comprehension while I lie 
contorted over the seats and my head stuck in the foot well area checking 
flaps and hoses and such.  Again I'm seeking some guidance.
