nervous about TDC?

pull # spark plug, and rest a skinny screwdriver or pencil on the top of
the piston.  rotate engine slowly (coil unplugged, key out...) until it
is at its highest.

The front two cam lobes, sometimes visible thru the oil cap hole, should
be both pointing up, at equal angles to the head.  pulling the cam cover
would let you put a straightedge across them and measure to the head if
you want.

Now look at your timing reference marks (cam gear, flywheel) and see how
they compute.
