A6/S6 headlamp upgrade

Mike Johnson and Dave Forgie provided an excellent tech article on the R&R
of URS4/URS6 headlamps at http://www.urs4.com/UrS4_main.htm.

Based on my recent experience in installing a pair of Hella eurolights on my
'95.5 S6, I've got a couple of minor comments to make on the article for
anyone considering this process (maybe it can be added to the article?)

First, the article was absolutely invaluable...without it, I still would be
at step 5, which essentially is the beginning of the process (after (1) the
beer has been chilled, (2) the wife and kids put to sleep, (3) the trouble
lamp plugged in, and (4) the bathrobe tied tightly,).

Here's my comments:

1 - the side marker lamp can be removed prior to the removal of the
headlamp, and may make it a bit easier. There's a plastic locknut that needs
a 1/4 turn to allow the removal of the side marker. This locknut keeps the
sliding bracket locked.

2 - the wings that mount the inboard side of the underlight trim piece are
not a permanent part of the lamp, and in the case of my euro-Hellas, were
not included. I had to remove them from my DOT lamps, *re*remove the
headlamp, and install them on the lamp housings. No big deal, but one always
learns this *after* everything is buttoned up tight.

3 - the wire spring lock on the lamp wiring slides toward the center of the
wiring plug...not toward the front of the plug (towards the housing) or
away. You just have to squeeze the wire spring and the plug comes loose.

Total time of installation, from the time it took to sign for the UPS
delivery to hood closed and hands cleaned was 1.5 hours.

It truly was a plug and play operation (stock bulb wattage).

I haven't aimed them yet, will do that as soon as it gets dark :)

Anybody need a set of US DOT A6/S6 headlamps? :)
