VW Intake Manifold, Turbo Issues

Well I got around to bolting up my GTi intake manifold, ATP turbo
exhaust manifold, and Garret T3 turbo to my freshly rebuilt GTi head. The
first problem was that a hanging eyelet was hitting the turbo body, so I
hacked that off. Then I realized there was an interference with the first
runner on the intake manifold and the exhaust portion of the turbo. I hand
filed away a nice flat spot on the outside of the intake runner. Still
wouldn't sit perfectly so I filed more. Eventually I ended up filing
through the manifold, knew that was going to happen. So my question is..

I need to either find a 4 cylinder VW/Audi manifold that opens to the
passenger's side (transverse mount) and has smaller intake runners than the
A2 GTi 8v manifold, OR I need to space the turbo/manifold further away from
the head. Anyone have some answers?

Thanks!
