My wife and I just came returned from a trip from Chicago to Vermont and
back with our two boys. The car was fully laden, with clothes etc. for 4
adults + some gifts for my sister in VT. We drove our 1990 200 TQWagon. Got
25 mpg on the highway, averaging 70mph. The car has over 120k miles on it.
Oil level did not change a bit from beginning to end. The car drove very
well.
We had done similar trips in our 1985 MB 300Turbodiesel. It did not do much
better than 25 mpg. Perhaps the newer TD's are better and more efficient.
I know they are quieter and smoke less.
BTW, VT is strictly Subie country, but I saw more Audis this time than I did
2 years ago.
