Continental tyres

Sorry, I've lost the name of the person who started this thread, but here's
my opinion on Contis-
They're mostly tyres with flexible side walls but hard treads, especially
what you want if you're into comfort and long lasting tyres but not if
you're a sporting driver. They also have a tendency to deform their treads,
which gives a howling noise.
I recently had the opportunity to test Contis side-by-side with Pirellis-
both the sporting versions, on a TT 225q and an S3. The chassis are very
similar, and I'm pretty sure that the striking differences can be mostly
attributed to the tyres.
The S3 -on Pirellis- stuck to the road like glue, it was utterly stable and
very predictable on the limit. There were some issues with the TT (on
Contis) though- on braking hard, it felt as if the tread was breaking up.
The limits of the Contis were a lot easier to reach and they let go much
more violently than the Pirellis.
Consider me no fan of Continental tyres. Their M&S tyres are quite decent
but if you enjoy a spirited drive, look elsewhere for your tyres.
HTH,
Tom
