will I get better mileage? :)

So, Tihol and I got together yesterday and replaced our multifunction temp
switches (his 88 -90Q, mine 86 5KTQ) and the connectors that plug into the
sensor needed major surgery - actually we cut them off and put on new
generic electrical connectors. Now, I have a temp gauge that works for the
first time since I bought the car (3 years ago).

After the repairs, started up the car, let it get warm and the fan kicked in
as it should. Then the fan shut off, as it should.

Today, the fan comes on at super duper high speed (level 3) ALL THE TIME.
Turn the key to on and WHOOOOOOOOOOO!!! regardless of the actual coolant
temp. Temperature on the gauge never gets above 75 degrees because of this.
I am going to have a look at it tonight, so can anyone give me any pointers
as to what could have gone wrong? FWIW I am quite certain that we hooked up
the wires correctly after the surgery. We even drew diagrams and labeled
color coding before cutting anything.

The bonus is that maybe I will get better mileage due to the pulling effect
of the fan (as in propeller) ....:) then again, maybe not ....:(
