I had this exact problem when my radiator was replaced. The temp
switch for the fan had gone bad and required replacement. This one is
on the radiator, IIRC, or very near by.

Careful driving long distances w/ the fan on high- that electrical
drain will kill your car. I had problems with driving at night in the
summertime with the a/c on, headlights and radio. I had to shut down the
climate control and radio in order to keep the battery from going dead.
I had the same problem this past winter when I was stuck in traffic for
about 4 hrs. w/o moving more than 400m in that time.
