    Fried amp in the head unit most likely.  BTDT with my Alpine head unit
so I threw in an A/D/S 4x40 Powerplate amp and it was the best stereo
decision I've ever made in my car.  Head unit and speakers make some
difference over stock equipment, but toss in a good amplifier and prepare
for some real sound.  Those head unit amps are puny and make very nasty
sound no matter the volume.
