Urban myth.
Wanna know how over-payments are dealt with in the UK?
If you are lucky your cheque is cashed and all funds (including the excess)
go to the exchequer. If your payment is processed by somebody who is in a
bloody-minded mood your cheque will be returned to you (usually after
payment deadline) with a snotty letter and if you don't stump up the correct
amount pretty quickly you'll be summonsed for non-payment.
Of course, if you want to experiment - feel free...
