cv boot replacement 86 5kt

PITA, to put it simply.

Loosen the axle nut a bit with the car on the ground.

jack car up and remove the wheel

loosen/remove the 8(?) inner cv to tranny output bolts

remove the outer axle nut completely

turn the wheel to full lock, and you should be able to remove the axle w/o
having to separate any of the suspension bits (I could anyway, from what I
remember).

Once you have the axle out and clamped to the bench you will need to pull
back the existing boot. Then, while spreading the circlip around the axle
splines, you must pound off the cv joint from the axle with much more force
than Mr.Bentley let on...

after several hours of pummeling you might be lucky enough to get the joint
headed towards the end of the shaft, and eventually it'll pop off. Once
things are apart you will want to degrease the joint, and repack it with
fresh CV grease, then re-assembly is the opposite of removal...

Have fun!
