Huh?

You don't finally torque the axle nut with the car in the air
because of the high torque required... so as not to knock the
car off the jack stands/lift.  You do however want to make sure
the axle is drawn all the way into the hub or the bearing won't
be properly supported when the wheel hits the ground.
