RE71, RE730, YokoAVSi for '88 80Q?

Tess,
I've had RE-71's on my GTi both in R compound and street compound. As an
autocross tire (R) the only positive thing that I could say about them is
that they braked well in the dry, fantastically in the wet. The street
tires are very smooth and nice communicative performers, but wear quite
fast (but since I only put about 2K miles on them each year, who cares?).
I've been in cars that have run AVS Intermediates, and they really seem
to stick very well for a street tire. But again, they were on small light
cars (i.e. a CRX Si) so I don't know how they'd translate to your Q. If
you are happy with the RE-71s, my best guess is to go with them, as they
are also pretty cheap now. One other (cheap) possibility is the Kumho
712's availible from Tire Rack. Great performers, quiet, smooth, good in
the wet, and really decent wear. I've had them on my 200Q (now THERE's a
TANK), autocrossed with them a couple of times, and like them very much.
Of course the 200Q wasn't much of an autocrosser, but the tires accounted
themselves quite well.
