Thanks for the suggestion, Kneale.
Yep, thought about it....
To look at Hemmings - do that often at the local supermarket - for free.
To put an ad in Hemmings - 55c (in US currency), min. 10 words, etc. etc. -
right now I'm already looking at: DKW Upholstery Fabric (made from
"unobtanium" according to all of the Hemmings/etc. dealers), re-chroming the
bumpers ($800+), professional strip and enamel repaint ($lotsabucks),...
This in addition to all of the things which I need to continue playing p.o.
catchup with my '87 5kTQ (ie, Bomb rebuild, wot switch, injectors,
multi-malfinction sensor, etc....you know the drill).
I've been to a number of swaps in the Toronto area (no German specific
ones - only VW so far) and I can't believe what some people have hiding in
the garage - and how much they'll ask just to get rid of it. Makes the
addage "One man's Junk is another man's treasure" the mantra of the "swap
meet-er". Since I can't make it to Carlisle (yet...maybe in a year or
two...) I thought I'd ask about the tool kit. I'm also Editor-in-Chief of
the DKW Club of America's newsletter "The Blue Cloud" - and so I thought I'd
ask for anything our q-listers could dredge up so I could pass it on in the
newsletter. I'll even take "I know someone, who knows this guy, whose
cousin..., etc." leads, since these are the ones which, when they pan out,
usually lead to the best finds. Our club has had some success with that of
late - two owners of DKWs _gave_ them to club members after they figured
that they'd never get to rebuilding them.
Yep, I thought about Hemmings, it just seems like a seller who is really
following this crazy car collecting fetish (pretty much all of the other
q-listers probably get where I'm coming from on that one), and paying the
big bucks for Hemmings (as most of the HMN readers are), they'd probably
have some jaded idea that the tools for a '62 would fetch $100 or more. I'd
prefer to deal with the sellers at Carlisle (the non-jaded ones, of course).
BTW - any q-listers going to the upcoming big UK German Car-Boot Sale (was
in the latest Audi Driver), or be in the Deinheim/Rhine area in May when the
DKW Swap meet is being held, please e-mail me off list.
Thanks, and Cheers!
