In Europe, Audi also built a small amount of Audi Coupe and Audi 90 2.0l
20v, quattro or FWD. These cars had the engine code NM, which is about the
same as the 7A, except it had different bore/stroke patterns (81 X 77.4mm
instead of 82.5 X 86.4mm).
The engines had about 158/160 HP (controverse about the power figures)
The production figures are about 950 exemplars for both models.
These cars were built awaiting for the 2.3l 20v project to be fully
completed, and were originally intended for the Italian market, as Italians
didn't like much the cat' idea (neither do I!!!) and engines below 2.0
liters were fiscally favourised (lower tax!).
The engine was related to by the belgian automotive press as a big hollow
engine, making the price difference between a 2.0-20v and a 2.2 car not
worth the expense (a looooooooot more expensive), the problem seemed to be
that these engines had really no low-end torque, so going from 40 to 80 in
5th gear was really hard for them. The explanation seems to be the fact that
the maximum torque was reached at 4500 RPM, which was really too high, and
nothing below that!!!
Acceleration figures show the same time between the 2.2l-136Hp euro version
Coupe quattro model and the 2.0-20v-160HP CQ, 9.1 secs 0-100Km/h (0-62 MPH),
and acceleration in 5th gear from 40 to 80 MPH was 3 or 4 secs longer with
the 20v than with the 2.2!!!

This is it,

Hope I didn't bore you!
