"Yup.....replace it.......$14.00.....dont ask why I know."
Tom Nestor
Well guys,
Just got back from the shop. Eric, at Dunamis Motor Verks, is a
pretty sharp guy. Sharp eyes. His personal car is as cherry a
'69 442 you'll ever see. Has nursed many VWs for over 600k miles. He did
the timing belt on my 20V Volvo 850t, first time, right time.
I'd contemplated doing the job myself with rental tools and a Blau kit.
Perused the Bently before doing anything, looked under the hood, there you
be. Chickened out and took it to Eric.
He calls me around this afternoon and says he just doesn't like the looks of
it, so I went down to see for myself. I'm so glad I had Eric do it.
Remember the eyes? I'd have never caught it. The key is machined into the
gear hub, as many of you know. Right at the base of this small key, where
the base of the key meets the hub is a line. A very fine line as the saying
goes. No way is this baby gonna pass a magna flux. It ain't gonna be $14,
especially if I want the car back Monday.
Glad I'm not in the market for a used AAN. Thanks for the advice, you bunch
of Audi nuts!
John Cassidy
