Climate Control Temp Dislay flashes first 10 minutes

'98 Audi A6 Quattro - Flashing continues whether selected temperature is
left alone or is adjusted.
Unfortunately this particular unit will not communicate with VAG so
trying to save some time by
asking if anyone else has experienced this/found cause and correction.
