Subject: Re: turbo conversion: quattro towing?>?>

... your car has a torsen center differential ... I believe that the owners
manual for the car states that such cars should not be towed with two wheels
down and the other two stopped ... but you should check this for yourself.
I'm not exactly sure what damage would be done, and the chances for damage
would be dependent upon how far and how fast the car was towed ... but if I
were in your shoes I would certainly take steps to ensure that the tow
driver takes responsibility for any damage done. If you don't have an
owners manual for your car, get the towing instructions for your car from an
Audi dealer and show them to the tow driver. Given the amount that it costs
for a tow I would have insisted that the car was flat bedded, but that is
water under the bridge now ...

To reply to the comment about towing an AWD car as yours was ... it isn't
the AWD that is the concern, it is the fact that your car has a Torsen
center diff that creates the issue. I would have no concerns at all towing
any of my open center diff'ed cars with 2 wheels on the ground (though I
would probably still request a flat bed ... ).

hours of on and off driving, the car deceided to take a crap on me. Making
a
tight right turn at about 5 MPH, the ball join snapped, bringing the car to
its knees. HERE IS MY QUESTION>>> from what i understand, a flat bed is
needed to tow a 4WD vehicle..... tow truck driver arrives, i remind him
again
and again that the car is 4wd, he continues to remind me that it would not
be
a problem to drag the car, leaving the rear wheels on the ground, OK i say,
he must kno what he is doing. Im home now, the car is on stands in the
driveway, but im concerned if that whole towing thing might have messed up
the transaxle. Any ideas on this would be great!! thanx again....
