Dear Audi Enthusiasts,

I own a 1987 Audi 90. (European equivalent to a US 1987 Audi 4000) My wife
and I, along with our two kids, live on a tropical island about 1200 miles
south of Tokyo. (Saipan, which is in the Northern Mariana Islands, an
American Commonwealth)

This has been a great car, but I have a problem with the A/C compressor.
The first one (original) was leaking so I took it to a reputable A/C &
refridgeration place and they told me the seal on the compressor was leaking
and that I would need to replace the compressor. It uses a York compressor,
(see specs below) so they replaced it.

 York Automotive A/C Compressor
 (Borg-Warner Corp.)
No. PM 51337
PT. R210L 21046
Refrig-12
York Automotive
Div. of Borg-Warner Corp.

A few months later, that one leaked, so they replaced it under warranty. To
make a long story shorter, I now have a York compressor purchased State side
that also now is leaking. (4 compressors in a year and a half) Has anyone
else experienced this problem with the York compressors? If so, what was
the
solution? Can a different style or brand of compressor be retrofitted into
this car?

Please send your responses to me at: rjohnson at febc.org

Thank you for any light you can shed on this great mystery.
