Rod, see my recent posting t this list about a conversion to R134a
using a Sanden compressor.  It's not a "drop in" replacement and requires
some "custom" work, but this may be the answer to your quandry.

The only major difference between your car and mine is that I have
the 4-cylinder engine while yours is a five.  I believe the five cylinder
4000s have the full size York rather than the Mini-York compressor, so
you'll need a slightly different adapter bracket.  ICE should have the
appropriate bracket for you.
