Better launching in my case was that I forced myself to floor the throttle
and release the clutch bit earlier.
The whole preparation and launch is like this:
With the clutch down floor the throttle until you reach 5k, release the
throttle, the let the rpm fall to 2000 and floor it again. This time let the
rpm stay at 3.5-4k. Now launch by modulating the rpm with the clutch, just
don't let it drop below 3k, when you reach a speed where the rpm will not
drop below 3000 release the clutch.
Before I did it this way I tried to keep the rpm at 5k but that was not a
good idea, first of all some torque are lost at that rpm but I also think
that the knock sensor sometimes misstrigger at that rpm. The car often felt
very slow when launching at that rpm.
The above is for a 10v with a K26, a 20v with a K24 is probably simpler. Let
the car free rev at 4000-5000 then floor the throttle and release the clutch
pretty quickly. You want the rpm higher then 3500 all the time.
As long as you have a torsen or have locked the middle diff in the Q1
transmission you will launch quicker if you sidestep the clutch at 6k but
clutch toast is cheaper then drive train sallad.
I only launch with locked diffs when it is wet, it is to hard on the
components. With open diffs you will spin a rear wheel if you are to quick
to apply power, if you apply to much power you will light one of the front
tires. It is all about weight transfer.
